How to Look Up a Building’s Square and Lot Numbers

Here are instructions for looking up the square and lot of a building in the District of Columbia. The square and lot numbers are needed to look the property up in the D.C. land records, to figure out who owns a property for instance.

Enter the address in the D.C. Office of Tax and Revenue’s Real Property Database….

In the Property Detail page that comes up, the square and lot number will be listed as “SSL.” The square is the first four-digit number. The lot is the second four-digit number.
